Today the biggest dilemma with human beings is about education, its goals, processes, and impact. They all sound perfect on paper,
but in reality, they are far away from where they should be.The education system places too much emphasis on the intellect and competition amongst the students.
Education has become a mere rat race.Getting admission into premier institutions and acquiring degrees doesn't serve the true purpose.
Today institutions are like ancillary units, supplying cogs to the main machine.Human beings have become like fuel for a larger machine that we have
created whether we call it the economic engine or the social things. The real needs of the society are not being met in the actual sense. The fundamental
goal of education is to enhance the horizons of human perception.Today's education only makes an accountant, or an engineer, or a doctor out of you.But
becoming any of these is of no great importance. The real education is about fulfillment at mental, emotional, and psychological levels. Does the current
system provide us that? No.The current system only emphasizes on society which is just an assembly of people.Education today only talks about serving society.
We humans vary from each other. Each one of us is unique in our way.So the very nature of life is such-every life-whether it's an earthworm, a grasshopper,
a tree or a blade of grass, just anything, its only desire is to find its full potential. And that's what it should be that human beings should find their
full potential as life. The highest manifestation is life itself.Everything else,
including all social and economic structures, are here to assist and serve that. But we have made life subservient to these structures.
These structures must be developed to serve an individual life and not a social life.Today's education enslaves people to serve the needs of whatever a few
people are thinking.
Now coming to what competition does to a child.Right now, people believe that you will not propel yourself to the fullest if you're not in competition.
When in fact, human beings will only stretch themselves to the limits and do the fullest when they're in the state of joyfulness.
The fear of failure in competition destroys the human genius. In this kind of competition, only one can win.All others are losers.
It's a horrible way to create society. The essence of education is to enhance your perception enabling you to perceive a blade of grass being as
important as the coconut tree. The competition will make you determined and focused in one way at the same time, make you fearful of failure,
fearful of being less than somebody else.True human capabilities will not find expression in the competition. When you're in a race with someone,
you only think of going one step ahead of him.You will not think of what your ultimate potential is.
True human capabilities will find expression only in absolute relaxation.Your mind and body will work best only when you're joyful, peaceful,
and quiet within yourself. If you ask me a way out I would say it's information versus inspiration. Education must inspire and not only inform.
The way the technology is developing carrying all the information in your head is not any more relevant. It's all there on the net.If you have an alert mind,
you can have it anytime you like.
The current education has impacted me equally. I've not escaped its negative influences that have restricted me to explore my ultimate potential
as the system makes me compete for social gratification.
To transform our education system, we should make it vibrant by bringing joyfulness into the students.
Their minds should be programmed in such a way that they constantly challenge concepts and seek answers.
It shouldn't be giving them ready-made answers. We need to change our perspective and encourage the other dimensions of human intelligence to
flower through encouraging creativity, entertainment, activities, engagement with nature and treat them as important as academics.
The environment should be created to promote joyfulness enabling students to stretch themselves and think beyond.
